This comprehensive five-day course combines both foundation and practitioner APMG Change Management qualifications. It will give you a highly developed understanding of change management, from the challenges of implementing change to managing resistance.

The Change Management Foundation qualification explores the theories of how change impacts on and is affected by the individual, team, organisation and change leader.

The practitioner element offers a more detailed exploration of change management, building on material from the Change Management Body of Knowledge (CMBoK), a standard for change management.

APMG Change Management Foundation exam

The APMG Change Management Foundation exam tests students’ knowledge of change management fundamentals.

• Timing: Afternoon of day 3

APMG Change Management Practitioner

The APMG Change Management Practitioner exam tests students’ knowledge of change management techniques.

• Style: Objective testing
• Questions: 4 (20 marks each)
• Pass mark: 50% (40/80)
• Duration: 150 minutes
• Materials allowed: Open-book
• Pre-requisites: APMG Change Management Foundation
• Timing: At any time after completing your course
• Results: Same day

The APMG Change Management qualification has two levels, and our 5-day course covers both.

Change Management Foundation (Days 1–3) builds your understanding of change management theory — how change affects individuals, teams, and organisations; the drivers and patterns of change; and the principles behind managing it well. You’ll sit the Foundation exam on the afternoon of Day 3 (50 multiple-choice questions, 40 minutes, closed book) and get your results the same day.

Change Management Practitioner (Days 4–5) builds on the Foundation knowledge and focuses on how to apply change management techniques in real-world situations — stakeholder strategy, communication and engagement, change readiness, and managing resistance. The Practitioner exam is sat after the course finishes (4 objective-test questions, 150 minutes, open book) so you have time to consolidate before sitting it.

Why take both together? Most professionals take the combined 5-day route because Practitioner-level certification is the recognised benchmark for working change managers. Doing them together saves time, keeps the learning fresh, and lowers costs — both exam fees are already included in your course price.

Q: Is the course delivered online or in person? A: Both. You can join live virtually from anywhere in the UK over a video link, or attend our Central London classroom in person. The same trainer leads both formats, so the experience is consistent.

Q: Are the exam fees included in the course price? A: Yes — both the APMG Foundation and Practitioner exam fees are included. There are no surprise add-on costs.

Q: When do I sit the exams? A: The Foundation exam is sat on the afternoon of Day 3, with results the same day. The Practitioner exam can be sat at any time after you complete Foundation — so you have time to consolidate the material before sitting it.

Q: What happens if I don’t pass an exam? A: Resit policies and fees are set by APMG (the awarding body), not by Acudemy. Resits are arranged directly through APMG, and our aftercare support includes revision guidance to help you prepare confidently.

Q: Can I take only Foundation without Practitioner? A: Our standard 5-day course covers both qualifications, because Practitioner certification is the recognised professional benchmark. If you only need Foundation, please get in touch — we may be able to arrange this on a bespoke basis.

Q: How does this compare to PRINCE2 or Agile PM? A: APMG Change Management focuses specifically on managing the people side of organisational change — culture, resistance, stakeholder engagement, communications. PRINCE2 and Agile PM focus on running projects. They complement each other well: many change managers hold both a project methodology certification and an APMG Change Management certification.
